Introduction...

Norway's Tysfjord is now one of the best places in the world to observe killer-whales.  From late October until mid-January the whales follow the huge shoals of Atlantic erring that have chosen this area to spread the winter.  Sea-eagles are also attracted to this potential feast.  Safaris are operated daily from the Tysfjord Turistsenter, and two safaris are included in this package.  It is even possible to swim with these magnificent creatures!  At night there is the possibility of viewing the spectacular Northern Lights to finish off the amazing experience.

Tysfjord Tursitsenter

If killer whales are the main focus of your holiday then this is undoubtedly the place to stay.  Acknowledged as one of the world's leading centres for whale-watching and research, Tysfjord Turstsenter has been operating killer-whale safaris for more than 15 years.  Knowledgeable guides and researchers accompany the safaris, which are responsibly organised to ensure the well-being of the whales and the passengers.  Slide-shows and lectures are available in the evening with researchers on hand to answer any questions.  Other activities such as Northern Light trips and moose safaris are usually available.

About 50 miles south of Narvik, the Tysfjord Trusitsenter offers comfortable hotel bedrooms with private facilities, TV and telephone.  Hotel amenities include restaurant, cafeteria/bar, sauna and solarium.  The nearest airport to Tysfjord is at Evenes (Harstad/Navik), and the transfer time is generally about 3 hours (depending on internal ferry schedule).  Because public transport from Evens is not ideal, this package includes a private car transfer to Tysfjord.  On the homeward journey you take a comfortable 4-hour bus trip, through spectacular scenery, to Bodo, and fly home from there.
